Hello World!

That’s the first thing coders learn to write, isn’t it? I thought it’d be appropriate to start off the first blog post in a similar tone, giving the subject matter of this project is pretty tech-related.

Clever, no?

I’ll let you in on a little secret… I’m not a coder. Couldn’t code my way out of a paper bag.

So, what, or who am I?

Well, my name is Ryan Stanton, and I’m a PhD Candidate at the University of Sydney. For more information on my academic career and hopes, feel free to check out our About Us. But if you don’t want to do that, all you need to know is that this is the website and blog where I’ll be posting updates about my research.

Of course, I couldn’t have done this alone. I need to thank Mark R Johnson, my wonderful supervisor, for buying the domain you’re browsing, setting up the site, and advising me on how to handle it as he has in all matters related to my PhD. He’s truly wonderful, as are my other supervisors Dr Benedetta Brevini and Dr Guy Redden.

I have to thank the corporate overlords from WordPress whose platform makes this possible. A lot of my research will touch on the powers of platforms, so it’s only fair that I’ll rely on one in this key part of my research.

And then there’s everybody that supports me. My friends, be they from my academic circles, faith communities, or elsewhere. My family, as large as it may be (shoutout to Dad for listening to my 30 minute political treatise over the phone every week as I update him on the theory I’m studying).

It’s fair to say that without them, this wouldn’t be possible. While most of what you see on this site may be written by me, it is truly a group effort.
